cachafaz (
Pachi Tamer )
This is Jersey. I met him 8 months ago outside of the ARCH, a homeless shelter here in Austin.
He was living in the street and was looking for a job for quite a while with no luck at all. Jersey is a chef with tons of experience. He used to work in Atlantic City hotels for 20 years.
I took him to Restaurant Supply and bought him a set of knives, clothes and everything he needed to get a proper work as a chef.
Then I went with him to different restaurants telling the story until he found a job. He started with 7 dollars an hour in a burguer place, and now he's earning $12 and he's working in an upscale restaurant in downtown.
Now, Jersey is a good friend of mine.
Now a little bit about me.
I worked in advertising as a creative/copywriter for the last 15 years. Finally I got tired of selling shit and quit my job three months ago to advocate full time to my project.
I want a better world for my daughter. I want to make a difference.
And I'm trying to work freelance for different non-profits. Now I'm doing "ads for good".
My first assignment was to make a video for the fundraising dinner of MexNet, a non profit organization that helps spanish speaking individuals to start their own business.
I was working on that for the last 3 weeks. Came up with the idea, shot the spot and edited all by myself.
The dinner is tomorrow at the Long Horn Center for the performing arts and I can invite someone to go with me.
I choose Jersey. Today we've rent our tuxedos. Neither him or me wore a tuxedo before.
We're both very excited. Great things are coming!
